Äntligen! Studentsångarna sjunger in våren… på internet!

2 05 2008

Friday theme / Show & tell: Colourful!

2 05 2008

This month it is Desiree in Alabama who has chosen the themes, and the first one is simply colourful!

I didn’t need to think very hard on this one – the Caribbean is so colourful and especially the houses! It’s funny, Sweden has quite a lot of colourful houses too – but in a completely different way; colourfulness is usually restricted to private homes made of wood and the colour scheme is more muted with earthy tones such as dark red, grey, dark green etc.

The bold colour choices never cease to amaze me, you can find any shade and colour here in Puerto Rico, sometimes a bit flashy but I think that it looks cool. However, I do believe that they would look completely out of place in Sweden – I wouldn’t want to live in a bright pink house in Sweden but why not here in the sunny Caribbean?

Here are some of my favourite colourful houses (I am trying out the bigger size for the photos – what do you think?):

La Placita, Santurce

La Placita (the covered market) in Santurce, San Juan is a deep purple!

Bright houses in Calle San Sebastian, Old San Juan

The buildings in Calle San Sebastián have all different colours – here’s a purple one… with me :D

A red and white building, Old San Juan

Many houses in Sweden are red and white but they are worlds apart in appearance from the Puerto Rican buildings like this one.

I seem to have taken mainly photos of big official buildings in San Juan, but private homes are at least as colourful – I will make sure to photograph some of those smaller houses to show another time…

Have a great weekend everybody!
