Once again a Friday theme chosen by Desiree in Alabama: Which shoes do you wear? Which shoes do you long to wear during summer? Best / worst shoes? Favourite shoes? Other nice, cool shoes?
I never liked shoes, in the sense that I don’t enjoy buying shoes – my feet are small but wide and high, so very often I can’t even get my feet in when I try on shoes! I also have a thing about showing my toes in shoes – I don’t like it so I always go for closed ones, even if gets a little hot in heat!! For a long time I didn’t own a lot of shoes because of the above reason, but nowadays I seem to have loads! I don’t know what happened, it’s the same with handbags (that I have lots all of a sudden) - maybe I have just become a typical woman??
O, who comes from a village of shoe-makers* (!!) and whose father used to be a shoe salesman, has a lot of opinions about my shoes! First of all, as I have already mentioned before, he calls my feet chubby, which is quite a fitting description
One of his favourite things to say is “what shall we do with these chubby feet?” – I usually say that he should just love them the way they are! And he calls my shoes pointless as I usually go for shoes with a rounded front, i.e not pointy! And I guess from a Spanish perspective on women’s shoes, he cannot really understand why I prefer comfortable shoes! Then there is the issue of matching - according to O, the shoes and the handbag should match!? Weeeelll, that’s usually not working for me, my favourite bag is bright green, and my favourite shoes are red & white (see below)!!
Anyway, I am not complaining as my man likes buying shoes for me and he has in the last 3 years bought me a pair of sturdy Timberland hiking boots, a pair of cool black winter boots (unfortunately my calves were a bit too thick
), a pair of Puma sneakers and a pair of flat, ballerina-like shoes with sparkles! He has good taste! And please note the absence of high-heeled, pointy shoes – he knows what I like…
Here are a few photos of my shoes:
We don’t have a typical Swedish shelf for shoes at our entrance as there is no proper hallway, instead I keep most of my shoes in an Ikea-basket. Probably not very good for the shoes, but it’s handy! Obviously I am just wearing summer shoes here in Puerto Rico – my flip flops I ONLY wear when going to the beach, the brown shoes next to them are my comfy shoes for going shopping, the Spanish lessons etc. Sneakers for my morning walks – oh, and there’s one of O’s pair too!
This is how my feet looked yesterday when I came home after having walked in the rain in my black Ballerina-shoes! (I can’t believe I am actually showing my dirty toes on my blog, ha ha!)
My favourite shoes are striped in red and white canvas (Hush Puppies), unfortunately they are almost falling apart now and quite dirty but I still love them. I bought them last year in the summer sales in Sweden, and I have NEVER gotten a blister from them – amazing I tell you! My feet are extremely sensitive and I always get blisters, regardless if the shoes are new or old. However, I walked around Milan during a whole weekend last year wearing these shoes, it was hot, and I didn’t feel a thing!
And to wish you all a great weekend – my favourite photo of a pair of shoes (ok, boots) – O’s happy feet when we went walking on the beach in Normandie last year!!
*) In October last year we celebrated the fiesta of San Crispin y San Crispiano, the patron saints of the shoemakers in O’s hometown!
