I don’t know where to start; neither how to start telling you about our holiday in NYC, NY state and Canada, nor how to prioritise my to-do list for this week – Spanish homework, Xmas cleaning and decoration, laundry (have no laundry detergent – so another thing on the list, to buy), write Xmas cards, send administrative letters to Belgium, ironing (I did laundry before leaving on holidays), call my grandparents, write the postcards we bought in Canada (!!), make O’s favourite quiches, help out at the Alliance francaise with the preparations for the Xmas party on Friday, prepare for O’s Xmas present… And I have a cold and no energy
So instead I am just procrastinating while looking at my new, beautiful and sparkly ”engagement”-ring that O bought for me on Saturday!! Yes, we are already married so why not call it a wedding ring*? Well, as I have already mentioned we are planning a [second] wedding with family and friends in the future so this will just have to be the e-ring (or “whatever-ring” as O so romantically put it!). I am so not used to wearing rings on my fingers and I first thought that I should wait until Xmas to put it on – just to have a special occasion… But then both my mother and my sister questioned my reasoning and today my sister came with the perfect “excuse”** – it is O’s name day in the Swedish calendar so why not make today the official day!
It still needs some getting used to having something so shiny on my finger, but I love the ring itself so hopefully I will soon feel comfortable having it on my finger all the time (I keep putting it back in its box). My mother told me that my father used to take off his e-ring every time he washed his hands when they first got engaged and he kept forgetting it in various bathrooms but now, after +30 years of wearing it he can hardly get it off.
Anyway, better get a move on and start ticking things off that to-do list… Travel posts will follow shortly – I haven’t even uploaded the photos yet!
*) Since we didn’t want the wedding last year to feel like a “real wedding”, we didn’t buy any wedding rings – that’s for the next one…
**) Why on earth would I need an excuse anyway?
