First of all, I am sorry to disappoint you but still no photos – I left my laptop in San Francisco, so you’ll just have to wait until next week when I’m back in Puerto Rico!
Nevertheless, we are now in MEXICO!! And we have already had a lot of tequila but no headache, so it must have been a good one! We arrived last night, O’s friend J (female) drove us to the border in San Diego, we walked across the border with all the Mexicans that work in the US and cross the border everyday, and O’s other friend J (male) picked us up in Tijuana (TJ).
J and his friend D took us to a cool local restaurant (yes, including the ever-present mariachi bands – but no tourists, only Mexican guests) where we shared a bottle of tequila, and had a great dinner with tortillas, refried beans, guacamole (my favourite), pico de gallo (tomato-based salsa) and fried meat. Yummy! We only had a few shots of tequila before we mixed it with Fresco (I think the lemonade was called) or Coca-cola! Interesting, I haven’t drunk a lot of tequila, but definitely never mixed with something (except in cocktails of course).
And do you know the best thing about the evening? I spoke SPANISH the whole time (don’t know if it was thanks to the tequila, ha ha!)!
I will write proper updates of our Californian adventures when I have my own laptop and I can post the photos… But, I have to tell you that I met the 6th blogger yesterday – Ing in Los Angeles and it was another great meeting! She took us to a Belgian (!!) breakfast place, good old Le Pain Quotidien and we felt like we were back in Brussels 😉 Once again the time flew so quickly but we were shown around the UCLA campus and the nice neighbourhood of Westwood, and Ing told us a little about life in LA.
Now we are off exploring Baja California, i.e Mexico’s California and I need to get into the Spanish-speaking mode again… (O is proud of me – or at least that’s what he said when I asked him the leading question Are you not proud of me speaking Spanish? Ha ha!)
