Actually, it is just one kilo that was stolen – the other kilo we did actually pay for! So, how did we do this – especially in a country where there is a person standing by the supermarket exit to check your receipt and compares it quickly with what is in your trolley? I am not sure how we managed to get pass the “shop-lifting check” but this is what happened:
We went to the BIG supermarket on Thursday to buy cheese and wine for O’s… cheese & wine evening for the colleagues yesterday. When we arrived to the check-out, the piece of gorgonzola didn’t have a price tag so O went back to look for another package. In the meanwhile I paid and our purchases were packed in the trolley by a staff member. O came back, paid for the Italian cheese, packed with the rest of the stuff, and we went home where we unpacked quickly and headed to Fuddrucker’s as we were starving… I have been craving a good hamburger even since I came back to Puerto Rico in August so O made me really happy when he suggested our favourite burger place.
Yesterday morning I opened the fridge, and saw TWO packages of Gorgonzola… Hm, that is one too many – regardless of the fact that we actually stole* some cheese, I am also wondering what to do with all of it!? Any suggestions are welcome! I will of course make our favourite salmon recipe but at the moment we have more cheese than fish 😉
Oh, and the party? It was fun – it was only the second time that we invited O’s colleagues, last time was in December last year and it was actually for another set of colleagues (O changed jobs within the office in March). Everybody was very friendly and I spoke Spanish all evening – it flowed really well and I felt that for the first time I could actually follow the conversation! The most popular thing of the evening was not the cheese, not my chocolate cake with strawberries… It was the Swiss cow toy that I gave O last year as a joke when I came back from Switzerland! I brought it out for O’s manager’s 2-year old twin daughters but boy, did everybody love it – it is a small round box that you turn upside down to make it go “mooo” 😀
*) Obviously we could claim good faith – we didn’t know that the first piece of cheese had already been packed… and I guess it proves that the check by the exit is not completely efficient!
