Friday’s Island: St Kitts

11 12 2009

Friday already and we are visiting St Kitts, or as it is officially called, St Christopher Island, from 8 o’clock in the morning to 18. St Kitts is an independent country together with the island Nevis, and the capital is Basseterre.

In my summary about the island I wrote: “not the most attractive capital, reggae, friendly locals”. My father has told me that he really would like to visit this island, but I am not sure if he said why?

St Kitts is 29 km long and 8 km wide, and has 35,000 inhabitants. It was established as a British colony in 1623, which makes it the oldest in the Caribbean. Both Great Britain and France actually used the island as a base to colonise other Caribbean islands. Neighbouring Anguilla belonged to the country until 1971.
