In the next two days we will have important first time visitors – little V’s Swedish aunt (moster), his mother’s best Danish friend L and Flemish “flatmate” S!
You might remember that we are in a transitional period when it comes to accommodation* and are actually sharing an apartment with our Flemish friends at the moment. Well, they are not in Brussels most of the time as they still live in Stockholm but just like us they are in “accommodation transition”, to come back to Brussels. S came to see us at the hospital but as it was outside the visiting hours to the neonatal unit, he didn’t get to meet V. Let’s hope that S sleeps as deeply as his girlfriend I who spent all of last week with us and claims not to have heard any crying / screaming during the night!
My sister’s visit will mark the first family visit after V was born! My parents are planning to come the first week of November, and O’s brother C and German girlfriend G are maybe also coming in November. The rest of the family members might have to wait until we go to Spain for Christmas and New Year’s and to Sweden, either in November or January next year.
Danish L is also an important visitor as she is part of my group of girlfriends from my Master’s year. The five of us usually meet up at least once a year for a girls’ weekend (Venice, Copenhagen, Geneva, Brussels, Provence) but since this year has seen three of us pregnant, we just haven’t managed to meet all of us at the same time. Irish O who is due to give birth in November came to Brussels just before V was born and we compared bellies, and I have seen Danish L and Swedish Å in Copenhagen, but unfortunately not French P (No 1) who gave birth to a baby boy in May. However, plans are under way for a weekend in the south of France next spring!
Another first time visit for V was last week when we ended up having lunch in IKEA instead of going to the hospital, as I had confused the day of his doctor’s appointment. V has now been introduced to the Swedish “mothership” (as Swedish expat bloggers call IKEA) and O and I hope that he will enjoy it as much as we do 😉
*) We will move back to the apartment where we lived this summer on the 15th November
